What’s for Dinner – DO Try This at Home

The internet, we’ve all discovered by now, is useful for two things:

  • Looking at pictures of cats
  • Finding new recipes to try

I’m always sharing/saving recipes I’ve found, especially quick and easy ones. This one is definitely easy, and the preparation time is quick. It cooks in the slow cooker, so if you start it early in the day, your dinner will be waiting for you when you’re ready to eat.

You’ve probably seen it around. It’s the “Three-Packet Slow Cooker Roast” recipe, and it’s one you’ll definitely want to try.

The recipe serves 6.

3-packetIngredients:

1 cup water
1 packet dry Italian-style salad dressing mix (.7-ounce)
1 packet ranch dressing mix (1 ounce)
1 packet brown gravy mix (.75-ounce)
1 boneless beef chuck roast (3 pound)

Directions:

  1. Whisk the water, Italian dressing mix, ranch dressing mix, and brown gravy mix together in a bowl until smooth. Place the beef roast into a slow cooker, and pour the sauce over top.
  2. Cook on Low until the roast is easily pierced by a fork, 6 to 8 hours.

Could it be any easier?

RoastOf course, I added lots of veggies, too. Celery, an onion, carrots, and potatoes. I slipped in a beef bouillon cube, as well, along with plenty of seasoned pepper. The result was a delicious meal.

I finished off the last of the vegetables yesterday at lunch and still had broth left over. No way was I throwing it out. So this morning, I’ll be getting out the rice cooker. I plan to cook  jasmine rice, add in sauteed mushrooms, and serve it with that flavorful beef broth. It will be a great accompaniment to veggie burgers, and I’ll be serving a side dish of mixed vegetables, too.

This recipe is definitely a keeper, so if you haven’t tried it yet, grab your shopping list and add the ingredients. Enjoy!

  1. I feel like my roasts are always flavorless, I’ll have to try this out. I like how you’re reusing the broth- that goodness can’t possible get thrown out!

  2. My daughter started doing this several months back and her entire family just loves it! It is actually a family favorite. Not only that, she said it smells so good while it is cooking. She had 4 daughters. For Christmas I got her a new crock pot that is 8.5 quarts for her big family. Instead of using a roast, she uses beef stew meat, and adds vegetables.
